PROJECT STARGAZER, the first initiative developed from a partnership between the Hollywood Black Film Festival (HBFF) and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, is seeking submissions of SCIENCE FICTION STORY IDEAS (you do not have to submit a script!) incorporating “NASA themed” science facts as plot elements that can be developed into screenplays.
Submissions will be accepted through June 16, 2013. The regular submission fee is $25. The late deadline is July 8, 2013. Late submission fee is $35. HBFF 2013 runs Oct 2-6, 2013 inHollywood,CA.
Project Stargazer is open to all citizens of theUnited Stateswho write or co-write the submission material. Writing partners are eligible to submit as a team. Applicants can be first time screenwriters, seasoned professionals or anywhere in between.
A panel of judges from the entertainment industry and scientific community will score submissions based on originality, story idea, diversity of main characters, tone, visual style, marketability and use of space science (i.e. astrophysics, aeronautics, planetary). Ten (10) semi-finalist Stargazers will be selected.
At HBFF 2013, the semi-finalist Stargazers will participate in an intensive workshop that includes individual one-on-one meetings and master classes with top industry writers, directors, producers and science/technology consultants to assist in the further development of the Stargazer projects. Each semi-finalist will have the opportunity to pitch their project to a panel of judges who will select three (3) Stargazer finalists to participate in the 2014 Project Stargazer Lab. Finalists will be announced at the HBFF 2013 Closing Night Ceremony.
