If you closed your eyes only for a moment this weekend (Aug. 2, 3, 2013) at the Catalina Jazz Club, you’d feel like you were at the Grammys or a Kool & The Gang concert with Paul Shafer and the band with his CBS Orchestra. But, when you opened your eyes, you see it was even a better moment: Arturo Sandoval, Arturo Sandoval, L.A. Big Band, Jon Barnes and Grammy Award-winning Skip Martin, former lead vocalist, Kool and The Gang killing it with hit songs like “Get Down On It,”, “Ladies Night” and tributes to jazz Dizzie Gillespie and Louis Armstrong.
Jon Barnes and Skip Martin talk about the daCarbo Jazz Festival (video). For more interviews visit the MAYO PR channel.
The awesome trio- Sandoval, Barnes and Martin had the entire dinner crowd not only standing and clapping, but dancing to the music at their dinner at the famous Jazz music venue in Hollywood. Friday night Ray Anthony, RayAnthony Big Band was in the crowd and Saturday night Debbie Reynolds was so moved, “She told me you guys are great and we’ve got to shoot a film together,” said Barnes.
A closer inquiry finds these three music giants were no accident performing together, too. They had just returned from the daCarbo Jazz Festival
In Baernbach (next to Graz, Austria). A tour organized by Jon Barnes, who’s endorsed by the daCarbo and Monster Cable. Barnes, Sandoval and Martin all have the new, one-of-a-kind horn, in which the bell is made entirely of carbon fiber and the trumpet body is a Spiri Vario. The carbon fiber bell can be changed with a regular brass bell designed for a carbon fiber, Spiri Vario. It’s lighter and has a unique grip and sound.
Additionally, Barnes has been commissioned to write and produce music for Arturo Sandoval and his big band. Sandoval, a protégé of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, was a founding member of the Grammy-winning group Irakere, whose explosive mixture of jazz, classical, rock, and traditional Cuban music caused a sensation throughout the entertainment world.
Barnes has also produced a CD celebrating Miles Davis music.
The cover features Barnes and a Miles Davis commemorative United States Postal Service Stamp. The music pays respect and honor to Miles Davis. Barnes’ original music was written after attending the ceremonies in New Yorkand at The Hollywood Bowl. To order a copy visit: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/jonbarnes2
